Frequently Asked Business Computer Services Questions
   
Here are some general questions that you should ask every computer
consultant. I have provided my answers to these questions for you.
These questions were originated by Joshua Feinberg.
He is a nationally known author, consultant and speaker.
 
  • Part-time or Full-time Services for Hire? - Do you have a day job?
    • Business Computer Services and Solutions is what I do FULL TIME.
  • Solo Practitioner or True Consulting Firm?
    • I support each client personally.
  • Small Business or Large Company Experience?
    • I have experience with the Mom and Pop company, the Internet Store Fronts,
      and the 50 PC plus companies. Each business type represents their own set
      of unique requirements.
  • Generalist or Specialist?
    • My background and experience is very diverse. I have "grown up" with the
      evolution of the internet and Microsoft. I have built PCs and have designed
      and installed networks and phone systems. I understand the business processes,
      databases, and workflow integration required to maintain a productive system
      that supports a business.
  • Reseller, True Consultant, or Hybird?
    • I am more of a true consultant than anything else. I guess the hybird part
      would be that I actually implement my recommendations and ensure that the
      systems and processes actually do what they are designed to do.
      If you want to buy from Dell, fine! I will recommend what to buy and I have
      no preferred vendors that I get kick backs from.
  • Costs and Billing Practices
    • We are all in business to be profitable. I charge for my services. Everything
      is stated upfront in the Statement of Work. Project related billing items may
      contain the following expenses:
      • Travel Time - If I have to travel outside of my coverage area, it will cost
        a little more.
      • Phone Support - Phone support is included as part of the support package
        for any of the services I provide.
      • Remote Support - Remote support is included (where available) for current
        project services. Emergency, or out of scope support will have an extra charge.
        So if you call me at 2:00 am and your computer system is down because a
        printer jammed or you recieved a virus and we do not have a maintenance
        agreement, I will charge you for those services.
  • Reference Accounts
    • I can provide you with references from both short term and long term accounts
  • Training Approach and Philosophy
    • It does no good for you to implement business solutions if you can't use them.
      I will MAKE SURE that you are comfortable with the solutions we implement and
      provide whatever training is required to ensure your success.
  • Fancy Cars, Fancy Offices, What kind of overhead am I paying for?
    • My overhead does not support fancy cars, or plush offices. I work out of
      my home. For the most part I work at YOUR business. It is important that
      I am a "good fit" for you and your business.
